Box Making 5 - 7 August 2011   07/08/2011   Click Here To Book

with Unagh McCullough

The boxes are known as heirloom boxes and are made in the tradition of boxes of yesteryear in that they are entirely hand stitched and very sturdy.  The card is covered with fabric of your choice making each box individual and unique.  The card is not pre-cut, as each piece is measured to fit the previous work assembled to ensure an excellent finish.

Students who are new to this craft will make a box size 7ins x 4ins x 2½ins deep with a drop-in lid. It makes an ideal jewellery box.  The ideal fabric for this project is cotton such as that used in patchwork. This gives the opportunity to choose really exciting patterns and colours although very large prints should be avoided as the detail will be lost when the fabric is cut up.

Students who have already made a box can come with the basic box made in a size of their choice ready to add lift-out trays and try a different lid.  Anyone doing this should contact the course tutor beforehand to discuss details.

Students are required to bring their own materials. A list will be given upon enrolment of each course.
