Willow Trug Making 23 October 2010   23/10/2010   Click Here To Book

with Clive Lyttle of Welig Crafts

Welig Crafts is run by basket makers and countryside skills practitioners Clive Lyttle and Elaine Burke who live and work near Portaferry Co. Down.  On their smallholding they grow willow and hazel for their work, where they also run many workshops and demonstrations.  They have a wide breadth of experience nurtured over many years of making, demonstrating and teaching their crafts.  Why not come along and try something new at Derrynoid!

The willow trug is a versatile basket that could be used for gathering flowers, herbs or could even be used as a kitchen/bread basket or small decorative log basket.  This course is open to beginners and improvers; it will involve the use of a screw block, and some basic tools which will be provided.  The weaving of this basket is simple and no previous experience necessary, however those that have been on a previous course will find this basket different to what has been on offer before.

The willow trug course will cater for ten students and materials costs are £6 per head for sorted and soaked willow.

One Day Course  £60
